Baantlo is an app for splitting shared bills in a building, hostel or shared house. This policy explains what information we handle, why, and what control you have over it. It applies to the Baantlo mobile app and this website.
1. Who we are
Baantlo (“we”, “us”) provides the Baantlo application and this website. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights described below, write to hello@baantlo.com.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you give us
- Account details — your name, and a phone number or email address used to sign in with a one-time code.
- Building data — building or group names, flat and room labels, member names, and roles (admin or member).
- Expense data — bill titles, categories, amounts, dates, who each bill is split between, and recorded payments and notes.
- Correspondence — anything you send us by email, such as a support request.
2.2 Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data — device type, operating system version, app version, and approximate region derived from your IP address, used to keep the service working and to diagnose faults.
- Crash and error reports — diagnostic information sent when the app fails, so we can fix it.
2.3 What we do not collect
- Bank account numbers, card numbers, or wallet credentials. Baantlo records that a payment happened; it never processes or moves money.
- Precise location, contacts, photos, or microphone data.
- Advertising identifiers, and any data used for cross-app tracking or ad profiling.
3. Where your data lives
Data you enter is stored on your device and, where you use an account, on our servers so the members of your building can see the same ledger. Server data is hosted with reputable cloud infrastructure providers and may be processed outside your country. We apply the protections in this policy wherever it is processed.
4. How we use your information
- To calculate bill shares, balances and monthly statements.
- To let the members of a building see the bills and balances for that building.
- To sign you in and keep your account secure, including sending one-time codes.
- To send service messages, such as a reminder about outstanding dues, where you have not turned those off.
- To fix bugs, prevent abuse, and improve the app.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.
5. Who can see your data
- Members of your building. Anyone you invite to a building can see that building's bills, splits, member names and balances. That visibility is the point of a shared ledger — only invite people who should see it.
- Service providers. Hosting, database, error-reporting and message-delivery providers process data on our behalf, under contract, and only to run Baantlo.
- Legal. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
We do not share your data with advertisers or data brokers, in any form.
6. Keeping data safe
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Sign-in tokens are stored in your device's secure storage. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfect, so we also keep the amount of data we hold small on purpose.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your building's data while your account is active, because a ledger is only useful with its history. When you delete your account we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain something to comply with the law. Entries you contributed to a shared building may remain visible to that building's other members as an anonymised record, so their balances stay correct.
8. Your rights
- Access and export — you can export your building data from within the app.
- Correction — you can edit your profile and, as an admin, correct bills and payments.
- Deletion — you can delete your account from the app, or ask us at hello@baantlo.com.
- Objection and restriction — where local law gives you these rights, write to us and we will honour them.
We respond to requests within 30 days.
9. Children
Baantlo is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Cookies on this website
This website is a static page. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider may keep basic server logs, and web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, whose own privacy terms then apply to that request.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect.
12. Contact
